VoIP:
Voice over IP (VoIP) sends voice data in packets using the Internet Protocol (IP) instead of analog waves as does plain old telephone service (POTS) lines. Voice and Internet services are delivered over a local loop access circuit using the Internet Protocol (IP), and phone calls are delivered over the carefully-managed network often running the SIP protocol for Voice over IP. Many VoIP service providers guarantee that phone calls will not travel over the public Internet, but are converted and transmitted over the traditional telephone network directly from the VoIP provider's private Internet network that usually adheres to a defined Quality of Service (QoS).

ADT Home Alarm Systems:

MPLS:
Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a data network protocol that uses Class of Service (CoS) to prioritize different types of data packets across a shared network to facilitate the convergence of voice, video and data applications.

As business networks face increasing numbers of applications with low latency and high bandwidth demands, MPLS allows network administrators to specify which applications should be prioritizes above others so that data flows across the network is an organized fashion that reflects the relative business importance of various type of data.

MPLS network is particularly important to businesses running applications that require latency such as VoIP, ERP, SAP, etc.

High Speed Internet Access via Ethernet
High Speed Internet Access via Ethernet local access connects end user Ethernet local area networks (LANs) to the Internet over a metropolitan wide area networks (WANs) at speeds ranging from 1 megabit per second (Mbps) up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps). Internet access via Ethernet is an "always on", flat-rate service that offers faster, more cost effective Internet access than is available through traditional telecommunication access technologies such as T1 / T3 or E1 / E3 connections.

Internet access via Ethernet is becoming more and more popular to meet the growing demand for dynamic high bandwidth increases. For example, an increase from 10 to 100 Mbps can be accomplished by a High Speed Internet over Ethernet provider by simple changing the settings on already installed Ethernet switches. This scalability is cost effective for customers in that bandwidth can be increased or decreased quickly and easily, on demand, without the necessity of adding or changing datacom equipment as would be required with T1 / T3 or E1 / E3 local access lines.

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line Service):
Digital Subscriber Line Service (DSL) has become a very popular Internet access service. This is because DSL uses the existing copper pairs that already exist between most customer premise offices and the local phone company central office (CO). A DSL connection is set up between a DSL modem at the customer premise and a DSL access multiplexer, or DSLAM, at the phone company central office. Both voice and data can be run across the same DSL connection by using a filter to separate voice traffic from Internet traffic.

DSL has become a widely-accepted and increasingly reliable method of delivering phone service and providing Internet access that saves end users money because both voice and data are delivered across the same plain old telephone serivce (POTS) line. However, the distance to the local phone company central office where the copper POTS line is connected from the customer premise to the DSLAM will determine the potential speed of the DSL connection.

Wireless Internet Service:
High-speed satellite and microwave Internet connections for business can replace or back up traditional terrestrial landlines such as Internet T1s and Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service. With wireless IInternet service in place as your primary or backup Internet connection, you can always count on low-latency connection to the Internet that means you will have an "always up", "never down", "zero outage" service that eliminates wasted time and increases productivity.

 Qwest DSL Offerings

Written by: Patrick Oborn - Jan 6, 2009

Most of us have been taught that by cutting out the middle man we can save money, but is that all you save? When it comes to internet access and phone service working with the incumbents or Baby Bells is a mixed bag. Certainly there are competitive companies that can give you the same or better phone service than the Baby Bells which suffer from years of a monopolistic market but is it the same for internet service?

DSL service is actually quite different than phone service. Besides the obvious difference of one being data and one being voice, competitive carriers generally use their own equipment which is kept at the phone company's facilities. In this case, asking your phone company to make changes to your service is dependant on your phone company and depending on how smoothly they run their operations you could have a very pleasant experience. Internet service however is different. Many baby bells resell their service which is then sold under a different name. You may be buying internet access and not realize that you're really buying Qwest DSL under another name.

In cases where companies purchase Qwest DSL and resell it under their own name, many of the advantages of changing carriers disappear. If the carrier does not own their equipment they will need to contact the provider to make any changes and as they are not the provider you have added another layer of complexity to any request you may have. Is it really worth the $5 or $10 you're saving by going with a competitor? Often times it's not. Think about cutting out the middle man when looking for internet service. If you know the company is simply reselling Qwest DSL, why not just go with the source?
